BOFA participates in PrepAlliance - an international preparedness project in the South Baltic Sea region
PrepAlliance is an international collaborative project to strengthen citizens' preparedness for crises such as extreme weather, pandemics, resource scarcity and other societal challenges. The project emphasises that preparedness is not just about equipment and plans, but also about knowledge, collaboration and engaged communities.
BOFA's role in PrepAlliance is to participate as a partner and contribute to the development of a strong network of organisations working with citizen-oriented crisis preparedness. Together with partners from Sweden and Poland, BOFA helps to share experiences, methods and good practices so that citizens in the region are better prepared in crisis situations.
The project brings together organisations across borders and creates a common framework for collaboration through so-called Handshake Agreements. In addition, training materials are translated and shared in English so that the knowledge can be used widely throughout the South Baltic Sea region. In 2026, joint training and knowledge sharing events will be organised in Poland (Gryfino), Sweden (Ystad) and Denmark (Rønne) to test methods and materials in practice.
The goal is to increase community resilience and create safer, more cohesive and sustainable communities.
Purpose of the project:
Communities need to have the tools to act in the event of a crisis and to help each other.
We live in a time characterised by multiple simultaneous crises. Climate change, biodiversity loss, resource depletion and other ecological crises are accelerating. At the same time, stress, anxiety, depression, loneliness, erosion of trust, polarisation and rising inequality - as well as a persistent sense of insecurity and powerlessness - pose a serious threat to our society and the way we live together. According to the World Economic Forum Global Risks Report 2025 these intertwined crises mean we face a significant risk of weakened social cohesion and social unrest, amid extreme weather events and ecosystem collapse.
This situation calls for tools and methods that can both shape everyday life with less pressure on the planet's limits while strengthening communities and fostering new networks that allow more people to actively participate.
BOFA focuses on communities and networks coming together around waste prevention practices such as recycling, repair, maintenance and sharing schemes.
PrepAlliance is a project that runs from July 2025 to December 2026.
