Future
The FUTURE project ran in 2018 - mid-2021.
The main focus of the project was to reduce the number of viable products becoming waste. With the FUTURE project, BOFA has worked to increase efforts to prevent things from becoming waste, when in reality they can easily be used again. Primarily by increasing the opportunity for citizens to reuse or donate their items for recycling.
In the FUTURE project, recycling containers were set up at Hasle and Aakirkeby Recycling Centres. Citizens handed in recyclable items in the recycling containers, which were then donated to Hasle Idrætsforening and Aakirkeby Idrætsforening, which participated in the project collaboration. The idea was that the sports associations would then sell the collected items at flea markets and earn a coin for the association's coffers. But then COVID-19 came along and changed the possibilities. Hasle Idrætsforening has collected the items throughout the period and put them in storage to hold a flea market when the opportunity arises again. Throughout the project, Aakirkeby Idrætsforening has sold the items via social media.
The experiences from the FUTURE project have been very good and BOFA's goal is to anchor the FUTURE project with recycling containers at all Bornholm's recycling centres.
The project resulted in BOFA now lending the recycling containers at the island's recycling centres to various associations on the island. The organisations that borrow the recycling containers collect recyclable items that they sell via social media, flea markets and second-hand shops for the benefit of the association, their local community and the circular economy.
The FUTURE project was funded by the EU programme Intereg ØKS, as well as by Region Zealand, the Capital Region of Denmark and Region Skåne. BOFA is one of 20 Danish and Swedish partners in the project and in our case, AffaldPlus, Lunds Renhållningsverk and Aalborg University also participate.
