Circular Economy Beyond Waste
What is the project about?
Circular Economy Beyond Waste (CEBW) is a large, nationwide project funded by the EU LIFE-IP Programme with a focus on implementing the National Circular Economy Action Plan - National Plan for Waste Prevention and Management 2020-2032. Through 26 sub-projects distributed between 39 partners, the project will explore and demonstrate how we can prevent waste and find solutions for increased reuse and recycling. Region Midt is the lead on the project. Bornholm Regional Municipality participates in four sub-actions in CEBW: As lead partner in Action C11 - A circular future for composite materials for food and beverages, where BOFA will lead the development and demonstration of a pilot solution to process food and beverage carton waste into high-value materials. C11 is solved in collaboration with Fredensborg Municipality and Samsø Municipality. As responsible for the implementation of Action 7.5 - REuseLAB Bornholm on recycling with focus on developing a scalable socio-economic model for local recycling and repair (end 2024) in collaboration with BOFA. As a partner in C10.2 - The Circular Material Depeche, developing a system for identifying and disseminating valuable materials from construction and demolition (ends 2024). The City of Copenhagen is the lead on this action. As a partner in C14.3 - Accelerating circular economy within businesses, which focuses on developing communication tools and industry overviews that make it easier for municipalities to have a dialogue with businesses while promoting the use of circular economy within businesses. In addition to Bornholm Regional Municipality, C14.3 also has Hvidovre Municipality and Rudersdal Municipality as project partners, and Frederiksberg Municipality as lead partner. Bornholm Regional Municipality also participates in Action C1 - Capacity Building, Know-ledge Creation, Learning and Networking Activities focusing on capacity building and Action C2 Improving Governance and Enabling the Circular Transition on a Systemic Level, which is about identifying legal and systemic barriers for Denmark to transition to a circular society.
What value does the project provide for BOFA and Bornholm?
By participating in CEBW, BOFA ensures that it is part of a strong national network that supports the national action plan for circular economy. In the project, BOFA also actively participates in the development of concrete circular solutions that help us achieve Vision 2032. This applies, for example, to difficult waste and resource flows such as food and beverage carton waste or construction waste. It also applies to the way we collaborate with the outside world, such as the business community together with the municipal environmental inspectorate, and with educational and research institutions such as FGU Bornholm and Aalborg University. Not least, it also applies to the way we work with the inner circles of a circular economy, i.e. extending the lifetime of products through increased repair and reuse.
