  • Windproof your waste containers

You can prevent your bins from tipping over or becoming misshapen when it's windy by following these tips:

    • Wrap a chain or rope around the bins to keep them in place.
    • Make sure the locking mechanism is an easily accessible carabiner. Knots and similar locking systems hinder the waste collector's work.
    • Only use the windscreen when it's windy.

  • BOFA's organisation

BOFA's organisation is illustrated in the organogram above.

The day-to-day running of BOFA is handled by the management team, which consists of the director and three department heads.

The three department managers have the following responsibilities:

    • CFO: Responsible for finance and administration.
    • Operations Manager: Responsible for the energy plant, recycling centre, environments and bottle bells as well as internal and external logistics.
    • Environmental and Project Manager: Responsible for the project department, recycling centres, hazardous waste transfer station, landfill, reception control and scales.

The Operations Manager and the Environment and Project Manager each have two specialised coordinators who ensure daily and professional contact with employees in their respective areas.

BOFA's User Council meets twice a year. The council acts as an advisory body without decision-making power. This means that the User Council cannot make decisions about BOFA's tariffs or services, for example.

Any issues in day-to-day operations are clarified between BOFA's management team and the centre manager in BRK Environment, Planning and Culture and the Environment and Business Committee (MEU).

Waste plans, regulations and similar are prepared in co-operation with the Environment and Business Committee.

BOFA's highest authority is the municipal council.

Hazardous waste collection at BOFA of STENA Recycling (located on Funen), sorting the waste. Some is separated and recycled, such as spray cans, while others are destroyed by incineration, such as pesticides.

  • What's happening with Small Electronics

The fraction is covered by producer responsibility legislation. BOFA is therefore only responsible for the collection and short-term storage of the fraction. The producer, or company (Elretur, H. • What happens with Textile Waste

Textile waste is pre-sorted and stored in Rønne. From here it is sent to WastePlus in Næstved, where it is finely sorted and forwarded for reuse, recycling or recovery.

  • What happens with food waste

After short-term storage at Fugato in Balka, the food waste is sent by lorry to Gemidan in Ølstykke, where it is bio-gasified. The plastic bags in which the waste is delivered are sorted out on arrival at the plant on Zealand.

The biogas is used to produce heat and electricity. The residual product is used by agriculture as bio-compost.

  • What happens with Food & Beverage cartons

As of 1 October 2025, the fraction is covered by producer responsibility legislation. BOFA is then only responsible for the collection and baling of the fraction.

The producer, or a company hired by the producer, is responsible for ensuring that the fraction is recycled or reused after collection/balling.

  • What's happening with Plast

As of 1 October 2025, the fraction is covered by producer responsibility legislation. BOFA is then only responsible for the collection and baling of the fraction.
