All questions and answers

BOFA takes the waste. But where do I hand in my used tyres? Can they have rims on them? What do I do with the half a can of paint that was left over?

We have collected the most frequently asked questions here. Click and see the answer.

At the bottom of the page, we have a direct email to BOFA's waste experts if you can't find the answer on the page.

Frequently asked questions

  • Why should low-waste households pay the same as high-waste households?

Of the total cost of waste collection, either from the household or an environmental organisation, only about 12% is dependent on the actual amount of waste from the individual household.

The rest of the price, approximately 88%, is tied up in fixed costs associated with general waste management.

These are fixed refuse collection services (Meldgaard and Fugato), equipment leasing/depreciation, and waste management/treatment.

  • Are there other ways to access self-service?

If you experience challenges using the self-service, you have the following options:

    • Try direct access: You can try to access the self-service directly via this link (note that you are leaving this website).

    • Use our app: If you prefer to use self-service on your smartphone, you can also try our app Waste portal.
  • Why is my address not in My Waste?

If your address does not appear in the self-service, it may be because there are no waste containers registered at the address. This may be the case if you share waste containers with other households.

How to find information about emptying communal bins:

    • Check the address where the bins are located.
    • If the bins are not associated with a specific address, the information is typically found under the household with the lowest house number among the closest households.

If you still cannot find the relevant address, please contact BOFA: mail@bofa.dk

  • Windproof your waste containers

You can prevent your bins from tipping over or becoming misshapen when it's windy by following these tips:

    • Wrap a chain or rope around the bins to keep them in place.
    • Make sure the locking mechanism is an easily accessible carabiner. Knots and similar locking systems hinder the waste collector's work.
    • Only use the windscreen when it's windy.

  • BOFA's organisation

BOFA's organisation is illustrated in the organogram above.

The day-to-day running of BOFA is handled by the management team, which consists of the director and three department heads.

The three department managers have the following responsibilities:

    • CFO: Responsible for finance and administration.
    • Operations Manager: Responsible for the energy plant, recycling centre, environments and bottle bells as well as internal and external logistics.
    • Environmental and Project Manager: Responsible for the project department, recycling centres, hazardous waste transfer station, landfill, reception control and scales.

The Operations Manager and the Environment and Project Manager each have two specialised coordinators who ensure daily and professional contact with employees in their respective areas.

BOFA's User Council meets twice a year. The council acts as an advisory body without decision-making power. This means that the User Council cannot make decisions about BOFA's tariffs or services, for example.

Any issues in day-to-day operations are clarified between BOFA's management team and the centre manager in BRK Environment, Planning and Culture and the Nature, Environment and Planning Committee.

Waste plans, regulations and similar are prepared in collaboration with the Nature, Environment and Planning Committee.

BOFA's highest authority is the municipal council.

  • What happens with hazardous waste

    What is hazardous waste?
Hazardous waste includes many different things, such as oil, chemicals, nail polish, paint cans and light bulbs.

    What happens to hazardous waste?
Hazardous waste is collected and handled by Stena, a large Swedish company specialising in recycling and waste management.

  • What's happening with Small Electronics

Electrical appliances are covered by producer responsibility rules. This means that manufacturers and importers of electrical equipment are obliged to take back products at the end of their useful life.

BOFA has entered into an agreement with the company Elretur, which is based in Taastrup. Elretur is responsible for collecting the electronic waste on Bornholm and ensuring that the worn-out products are either reused or recycled as materials.

  • What happens with Textile Waste

BOFA works with a collector who sorts and redistributes textiles for recycling and reuse. However, textiles made of nylon and other synthetic materials are incinerated.

BOFA encourages textiles in good condition to be delivered directly to second-hand shops so that they can be given a new life by others. This ensures that resources are utilised in the best possible way.
